Beijing man breaks COVID-19 rules, sends thousands into quarantine

Image
BEIJING: A Beijing man has landed thousands of his neighbors in quarantine after he ignored an order to stay at home and later tested positive for COVID-19, prompting a police investigation. The Chinese capital has ordered hundreds of thousands of residents to stay home over the last five weeks to curb its largest coronavirus outbreak since the start of the pandemic. Officials said Sunday a man in his 40s surnamed Sun had failed to follow a requirement to isolate that he was given after he visited a shopping center considered “high risk.” “During the home isolation period he... went out many times and walked in the neighborhood,” said Beijing public security official Pan Xuhong. Sun and his wife later tested positive, prompting authorities to lock down 5,000 of their neighbors at home and send 250 to a government quarantine center. It comes as virus restrictions began to be eased in Beijing on Monday, with authorities re-opening parks, museums and cinemas and dec...

Rand Paul objection delays $40 billion Ukraine aid package

Image
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) hit the brakes Thursday on bipartisan hopes that the Senate could quickly pass nearly $40 billion in Ukraine aid before leaving town for the week. Paul objected to a deal offered by Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) that would have set up votes on Thursday afternoon on the funding and on an amendment from Paul, who wanted to include language in the bill to expand an Afghanistan inspector general role to include oversight of the Ukraine funds. Paul blocked the votes because he wants his language inserted into the text of the bill instead of having to take his chance with an amendment vote, which could be blocked. The stalemate will delay the Senate’s passage of the Ukraine package until at least next week, and potentially beyond. HOW A SUPREME COURT INVESTIGATION OF THE ROE V. WADE LEAK MIGHT UNFOLD

Image
Leak investigators have three key areas to analyze for clues: the document itself, the environment the document circulated in, and the potential identity of the leaker. Each area in turn presents lessons and opportunities for would-be leakers to adopt various counter-forensic strategies to subvert future leak investigations. Since the leaked opinion appears to be a scan or photocopy of a paper document instead of a transcription or recreation, the image can be analyzed for any unique markings that might allow investigators to pinpoint which particular physical copy of the document was leaked. The first page includes several such potentially unique identifying markers, including a highlighted title, a page bend, and what appear to be staple perforations. ‘West was preparing to invade our land,’ Putin says in Victory Day speech

Image
Putin claimed Russian forces in Ukraine were defending the Motherland from an "absolutely unacceptable threat" as he addressed troops in Moscow's Red Square. President Volodymyr Zelensky has released a video statement saying Ukraine will not allow Russia to appropriate victory in World War II. "Today we celebrate Victory Day over Nazism. We are proud of our ancestors who together with other nations in the anti-Hitler coalition defeated Nazism. And we will not allow anyone to annex this victory. We will not allow it to be appropriated," the Ukrainian leader said.  Zelensky listed several Ukrainian towns and cities currently under control of invading Russian forces, saying that Ukrainians during World War II had ousted Nazi Germany's forces from these regions. Your past leaves a trail

Image
IT firms gear up to verify their employees’ backgrounds more strictly in order to check fraudulent claims of tenure, designations and degrees Verifying backgrounds of employees, which major IT companies like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys Technologies, Wipro and Cognizant have been doing for 5-6 years, is becoming more stringent after the terror attacks throughout the country. It’s being done with good reason. Pre-screening players allege that ‘fake degrees’ can be obtained and verified in India with ease. Consider this. Of all the discrepancies recorded in the first quarter (Q1) of January 2009, about 71 per cent are related to past employment data, according to a pre-screening firm, First Advantage. About 20 per cent are related to past educational data; and 4 out of 5 educational discrepancies relate to cases of fake documentation. Russia-Ukraine war: All civilians evacuated from Mariupol steel mill

Image
Pale and drawn, the last civilians sheltering in bunkers beneath a sprawling steel mill in the decimated Ukrainian port city of Mariupol arrived late Sunday night in Zaporizhzhia, the first major Ukrainian city beyond the frontlines. The shattered survivors spoke of constant shelling, dwindling food, ubiquitous mold and using hand sanitiser for cooking fuel. Ten buses slowly pulled into Zaporizhzhia's deserted streets under darkness, carrying 174 evacuees from the Mariupol area. They included more than 30 of the 51 civilians evacuated in the last day from the Azovstal  steel  mill, where an estimated 2,000 Ukrainian fighters are making what appears to be their last stand. Both Ukrainian and Russian officials have said these civilians are the last non-combatants from the industrial complex. It was terrible in the bunkers," said 69-year-old Lyubov Andropova, who had been in Azovstal since March 10. "Water would run down from the ceilings. There was mold everywhere. We wer...

Expect a nuclear domino effect in Middle East if Iran obtains weapon capabilities, experts say

Image
The U.S. will have a hard time stopping  Middle Eastern nations  from pursuing nuclear capabilities should Iran obtain a nuclear weapon, and it must work to repair relations with allies in the region to downplay concerns, experts told Fox News Digital.   "It's obvious that if Iran becomes nuclear, they will threaten the very existence of all the Sunni states and neighbors in the Gulf," Brigadier General (reserve) Amir Avivi, founder of the Israel Defense & Security Forum, said. "Nobody will have the right, not the U.S., not Europe, not anybody will have the moral right to tell anybody in the Middle East not to be able to defend itself." As the U.S. continues to thrash out a new Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) – also known as the Iran nuclear deal – the greatest concern remains Iran’s ability to obtain nuclear weapons. The plan limited Iran’s nuclear capabilities for a period of 10 years on centrifuges and 15 years on the amount of enriched urani...
