Messi Shines as Inter Miami Clinches MLS Supporters' Shield

Lionel Messi showcased his brilliance by scoring twice in Inter Miami's thrilling 3-2 victory over Columbus Crew, securing the MLS Supporters' Shield for the first time in the club's history.

The Argentine star kicked off the scoring with a close-range goal and followed up with a stunning free-kick just before halftime. Columbus Crew's Diego Rossi managed to narrow the gap, but Luis Suarez, a former Liverpool striker, restored Miami's two-goal lead. Although Cucho Hernandez scored a penalty for the Crew, Miami held on for the win.

This achievement marks a historic milestone for Inter Miami, as it finishes at the top of the table, having debuted in the league in 2020. For Messi, this victory adds to his illustrious career, bringing his total silverware count to 46.

With this triumph, Miami gains home-field advantage in the upcoming post-season playoffs. Messi reflected on the team's progress, stating, "The first objective has been achieved, and now we have to think about what's next. We have the great advantage of playing all the games at home, which is what we were looking for."

To set a new MLS record for most points in a regular season, Miami needs to secure victories in their final two league matches, surpassing the 73 points held by the New England Revolution since 2021.
